United Way of Santa Barbara County’s Board of Directors would like to announce their new vision, mission, and core values of the organization. Dozens of feedback meetings have been conducted and thousands of people have received and responded to the new vision, mission, and values. A large amount of community feedback ranging from donors to community experts has been received during the strategic planning process over the past year. United Way will continue through this process to develop it’s goals, business plan, and other support activities.
United Way would like to thank the more than one thousand people who participated and provided feedback on our new vision, mission, and values. We would especially like to thank the members of our Board of Directors who are a part of the Strategic Planning Committee: Kent Englert, Englert & Associates; Pat Hurley, Raytheon Company; Mike Noling, community volunteer; Tom Thomas, Santa Barbara Bank & Trust; and Jim Wolfe, community volunteer.

Innovative- Using the Power of Partnership,we connect strengths, multiply resources, and create the best ways to make measurable improvements in local lives. The committee’s goal is to determine how to mobilize a community, create lasting changes, and how to improve lives. The group began with looking at contributor survey results. The results showed that United Way should focus on children, seniors, and families in our community. To research these areas, the team has reviewed a large number of community reports, and they have listened to area experts in their respective fields to discuss what issues and strategies hold the best promise for improvement of Santa Barbara County. The team will continue to meet over the next year to develop and fine tune these processes. We truly appreciate their help in making our community a place where everyone has a hopeful future!
United Way of Santa Barbara County will be awarding grants totaling nearly $150,000 through one of its volunteer processes for children, families, and seniors. Funds will be going to a variety of community services for such programs that:
These services were reviewed by members of United Way's Board of Directors and will be awarded one-year grants.
We have an exciting opportunity for a person who would like to learn more about our community by coordinating United Way's Day of Caring!
This seasonal position will be responsible for event coordination for Day of Caring. This job is part time from May through July and full time in August and September. This position will receive support and direction from last year's Day of Caring Project Manager. This is a great way to become familiar with the charitable organizations that need help and many employers in the area that want to volunteer.
