United Way Needs Your Help...
To Plan for the Future of Children, Families, and Seniors!
Power of Partnership Initiative Kicks-Off!
Last week marked the kick-off of the Power of Partnership Initiative. This initiative is a collaborative effort to create community-driven, expert-assisted Master Action Plans (MAPs) designed to increase the well-being of children, families, and seniors in our community over the next ten years. As part of the kickoff, the initiative's Vision Council and Steering Committee for Children & Families, two very committed groups of key community leaders, met at United Way of Santa Barbara County to take the first steps towards creating a vision statement for children and families. The meeting commenced with a special envisioning exercise in which members were asked to complete the phrase, "The Power of Partnership is..." Some of the words used to complete the phrase were, "comprehensive community plan, catalyst for change, shared vision, and vibrant healthy community". These phrases reflect the hopeful nature of the Initiative's chief participants as this dynamic community-wide initiative begins.
These groups plan to meet again in June after a series of Community Vision Forums. The forums are scheduled for May to solicit the hopes and thoughts of our community members and to ensure that in the future our community is a place where children, families, and seniors thrive.
We hope that you will attend one of the following forums to share your ideas and dreams concerning what our community should focus on over the next ten years. Please visit the Power of Partnership website at www.partnershipsb.org to find out more about the initiative. On the website, you will also find a community survey. We hope that you will take a moment to share your thoughts with us so that we may include them as we plan our future.
Through the Power of Partnership, every community member and local organization has an opportunity to participate as we create a vision for our community's future. The Power of Partnership Initiative is seeking input from local experts and community members throughout the county, including our city and county governments, school districts, media, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, arts organizations, charitable foundations, educational and academic communities, medical and mental health professionals, non-profit organizations, service organizations, and many more.
