 Fun
in the Sun is a high-quality summer program for income-qualifying
children living in the Goleta and Santa Barbara communities. United Way
provides full scholarships to all participants whose ages range from
6-12 years for the general program and ages 13-17 for the Counselor in
Training program.The
program yields long-term results for the more than 1,900 local
children who have attended Fun in the Sun since its inception in
1997.
In a 7-week session, children engage in a multitude of indoor and
outdoor activities creatively geared to engage and reinforce learning
that would otherwise languish over the summer months. They learn about
their well-being, discover their world through field trips, find
self-expression through the arts, and cultivate positive friendships.
Many volunteer opportunities with various commitment levels exist for
people who want to get involved. To learn more about how you or your

Volunteers Needed at Fun in the
Sun
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity this summer? Do you enjoy
helping children learn and grow? If so, join us this summer at Fun in
the Sun!
Volunteers are needed to provide support for staff members at the Fun in
the Sun program, which takes place June 26 - August 11 from about 8:30
a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Volunteers must attend training (time TBD) during the
week prior to the program. We ask for a commitment of at least 5 hours a
week. We are especially interested in volunteers with prior teaching
experience.

The Lunch Bunch
Lunch Bunch connects Fun in the
Sun kids with hundreds of adults and dozens of companies
from the local community. It provides caring adults with a
fun way to get involved during the lunch hour. In the summer
of 2005, 50 local employers recruited over 600 employees to
participate in the Lunch Bunch volunteer program.
Volunteers have a chance to chat, play, and even plan
activities for the kids. Many teams use this as an
opportunity to teach the children an aspect of their
organization they feel is important for children to know.
Other organizations also come up with other ways to
contribute such holding a book drive, organizing a soccer
game with the kids, or sponsoring a barbeque for lunch.
Our children are in need of positive adult interaction, and
Lunch Bunch is one of the ways we make that happen. For more

Monday-Friday, July 5-August 11.
