United Way of Santa Barbara County had a
kick-off luncheon for the 2008-09 Pacesetter campaigns on
Wednesday, July 16, 2008.
The insurance-themed luncheon was held at
Rodney’s Steakhouse at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort.
John Wigle,
President of AGIA Insurance Services and United Way of Santa Barbara
County’s 2007-08 Community Campaign Deputy Chair was master of
ceremonies. The tables were decorated with “bobble-head” figures of John
holding different types of insurance. John opened the luncheon by
reviewing the success of last year’s Pacesetter campaigns, as well as
describing some examples of United Way programs. Lynda Nahra, United
Way's Community Campaign Chair, kept the crowd entertained with an
interactive word game that kept everyone participating during the entire
luncheon. Lynda also shared the details of the duties of the Campaign
Cabinet.
United Way’s President & CEO Paul Didier
explained the goals of the Power of Partnership™ Initiative, and also covered some partnering programs for 2008,
such as Pre-K Summer Institutes and the website
volunteersbc.org.
Pat
Card Vasquez, AGIA’s Campaign Chair, encouraged Pacesetter Luncheon
attendees by sharing the
outstanding events that AGIA has planned for their employees. Pat
mentioned a silent-auction, bingo and a raffle for airline tickets and
hotel stays. Many great ideas came from brainstorming in groups. Each
group read one or two ideas that their table thought could make their
employee campaign even bigger and better.
