Members of United Way of Santa Barbara County's Alexis de Tocqueville
Society gathered together to celebrate philanthropy at the new Hotel Andalucia on March 2, 2005. This group of community leaders embraces the
responsibility of bringing about positive change and inspiring others to
do the same with gifts of $10,000 or more annually.
"As soon as individuals with a cause have found one another out, they
combine. From that moment, they are…a power seen from afar, whose
actions serve for an example, and whose language is listened to."
--Alexis de Tocqueville
Our newest society member and national best selling author, Andrew Klavan, was the evenings' featured guest speaker. Andrew shared his
thoughts and enthusiasm on the importance of supporting United Way and
the power of coming together to invest in the future of our community.
"I choose to support United Way because of its emphasis on results, and
on making sure people's charitable dollars do as much good in the
community as possible" said Mr. Klavan.
After cocktails in the gallery, the group enjoyed delicious cuisine and
great company. As to be expected, this group of leaders showed their
support of United Way by pledging $120,000 to the 2005 Community
Campaign. Looking to the future, guests in attendance pledged a total of
$338,000 to be paid over the next five years.
United Way's Board of Directors would like to thank Andrew Klavan, and
those who join United Way in sharing the excitement about the
possibilities for our community and the future of Santa Barbara County.
