and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara |
On February 18, 2005, over 200 volunteers, contributors and supporters celebrated
the outstanding accomplishments of the 2004-2005 Community Campaign at the Four
Seasons Biltmore. The Victory Celebration was alive with a Mardi Gras theme and
the guests were entertained with the music of the band Instant Love Mix.
John Romo, President of Santa Barbara City College, opened
the celebration, as he thanked Rick Nightingale of Damitz Brooks
Nightingale Turner & Morrisset & United Way's Board President;
Four Seasons Biltmore; and John Indrieri, former General Manager
of the Four Seasons Bitmore, for hosting the evening event. Romo
then passed off the mike to Bill and Bonnie from KRUZ 103.3
who acted as Masters of Ceremonies for the remaining portion of the program.

As would be expected, with the challenging economy and fundraising environment,
it was quite a stretch to meet the goal of $2,937,000. Nevertheless, the people
and businesses of Santa Barbara and the surrounding communities stepped up to
the plate and United Way of Santa Barbara County raised a total of $3,001,076,
with an average gift of $273 and a 31% participation rate. This is a great success,
not only for reaching the goal, but also for surpassing the $3,000,000 mark for
the first time in history! A special thanks goes to our 2004-2005 Community Campaign
Chair, Henry Dubroff, Editor of the Pacific Coast Business Times,
for helping us to reach this new level of giving! We are grateful to all our volunteers,
donors, staff, and supporters for making this possible.

In addition to celebrating the great success of the overall campaign, this
evening celebrated individuals and workplace campaigns completed between the December
Holiday Report Meeting and the Victory Celebration. Jim and Marcia Wolfe
received The Alexis de Tocqueville Award for Outstanding Philanthropy; John
Indrieri received the award for Outstanding Leadership Circle Volunteer of
Time, Talent and Treasure. Workplace Campaign Awards went to Raytheon Company,
Cottage Health System, Bacara Resort and Spa, Vetronix, AGIA-Association
Group Insurance, Cox Communications, CallWave and Commission
Junction. United Way once again congratulates the winners of these awards.
Thank you for your support and contributions!

Paul Didier of Santa Barbara County's United Way |
Jim Knight, from Indigo Systems, and Stephen Sawyer
from Comcast, each took the stage and presented United Way of
Santa Barbara County with a check for $35,000. The program wound down with a big thank you
and good-bye to two of United Way's faithful staff, Kristin Rushforth and Brooke
Early. Both played a pivotal role in the success of this campaign.
.
Excitement from the success of the campaign, noise poppers, music, laughter and
joyful greetings filled the air as the event came to a victorious close, worthy
of such an exciting and festive celebration.
