Saturday, September 20th, 2008 was a day of hard work here in Santa Barbara County. Over 1,000 energetic volunteers gathered at Ben Page Youth Center for the annual Day Of Caring kick-off breakfast generously sponsored by Albertson's, Einstein's Bagels and San Luis Obispo Roasting Company! The room was pumped up with the sound, song and cheer of the Dos Pueblos High School Drum Line, The San Marcos High School Madrigals, The Santa Barbara City College Cheerleaders and Dancing Drum! The volunteers were motivated and inspired by the entertaining Gary & Catherine of K-LITE, Randy Weiss of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, Lynda Nahra of Community West Bank and John Wigle of AGIA. The giant Ben Page Youth Center was a sea of blue Day of Caring t-shirts as the eager volunteers marched their way off to their jobsites.
Over 50 local agency jobsites stretching from Carpinteria to Santa Barbara, Goleta and Santa Ynez received much-needed TLC and community support. Teams from schools, employers, churches, and families and organizations contributed by painting, gardening, cleaning, stuffing envelopes and even building adobe bricks! The agencies were thrilled with the response from the community and have asked me to pass on very grateful and appreciative Thank Yous to all of you!
Thank you to our generous and supportive community for making United Way of Santa Barbara County's
17th Annual Day of Caring a remarkable success! |
