"I No Longer Wished to Allow Drugs to Control My
Life"
Tammy A. came to Transition House with her husband and their three children. They had lost
their apartment and Tammy struggled with a drug problem. The first night
of their stay, she admitted she no longer wished to allow drugs to
control her life. She was ready for change. Transition House immediately
enrolled Tammy in Project Recovery's outpatient Perinatal Program, where
she received counseling, attended a variety of classes, and was drug
tested on a daily basis. Two months later, Tammy secured a job. While
Tammy's success continued, her newfound self-esteem threatened her
husband and he abandoned the family.
Thanks to a strong relationship with agency staff, Tammy stayed strong,
determined to give her children a better life. She continued her
recovery work and eventually secured child support income from her
husband. She progressed through Transition House's second stage program,
Firehouse, and has moved
into a Transition House apartment. She continues to remain sober and is
working on long-term career goals with her case manager. With the
financial support of United Way of Santa Barbara County, these kind of
programs can be offered to people like Tammy, and make an incredible
impact on lives like her own. |
