"I
Was So Worried About My Elderly Parents..."
Amanda was stopped at a traffic light, consumed with worry about her
mother-in-law, Sandy, when she saw a Friendship Center van drive by.
Amanda immediately followed the van to the center and asked for help.
Sandy was physically frail, addicted to pain medication, and her husband
was dying in the hospital after a serious illness. Sandy's house was
also about to be sold and she didn’t know where she was going to live.
When
Sandy got to the center, the staff provided her with doctor
referrals to help with her addiction, as well as help from Adult
Protective Services. Sandy now attends activities provided by the
Center, has successfully reduced her dependence on pain medication, and
has also received money that was rightfully hers after the sale of her
house.
