Enid moved to the
United States from Denmark in 1948, settling in the Danish community of
Solvang with her husband and three children. They ran two successful
businesses and loved raising their family in the small, close-knit
little town. Enid lives with one of her daughters, and when she was
diagnosed with dementia several years ago, she began attending Valley
Haven, a senior day care center. Enid received a scholarship and is able
to attend three days a week, which helps both Enid and her daughter
maintain more independence in their daily lives. When asked what she
enjoys most about her days at the Center, Enid said, “Mind expansion,
friendship, and enjoying activities that I couldn’t do at home.”
