How We Work

United Way of Santa Barbara County is a volunteer-led organization that mobilizes the resources and strategic thinking of nonprofit, private, and public sectors to improve lives, strengthen the community, and build a stronger south Santa Barbara County. We acknowledge the unique and invaluable role that nonprofit agencies play in the city's overall human service delivery system, and we partner with a range of nonprofit organizations:

Partners: We partner with selected organizations to carry out our Community Impact Area Agenda.

Affiliates: We provide qualified community-based organizations with financial, technical, and in-kind support to enable them to fulfill their missions and develop their programs and infrastructures.

Grantees: We provide grants to local, community-based organizations in support of specific services through a variety of government-funded programs and funders' collaboratives that we administer.

Community Impact Areas

Successful Children & Teens

United Way of Santa Barbara County is making an impact in our community with services that produce successful children and teens.  Children need a caring, positive start in life to develop properly and avoid future problems. United Way is working with parents and child care providers to make child care and early childhood development as excellent and affordable as possible.

Older children need a safe place to play and learn after school. Teen pregnancy, youth gangs and dropping out of school can have lasting consequences for young people and those around them. United Way is partnering with Santa Barbara County organizations to provide youth with tutoring, positive adult role models, and leadership programs that develop self-esteem and decision-making skills.
