 To Apply for Assistance

Individuals and families affected by the fire who desire assistance must apply at the American Red Cross at 2707 State St., Santa Barbara, California from 9 a.m. to 5.p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants should bring proof that their house was burned down, damaged, or that they have been adversely affected by the fire. Examples include a driver’s license with the destroyed home’s address or utility correspondence sent to the address in question. All applications are confidential.

Red Cross has offered to provide this case management service. If you have already applied to Red Cross you do not need to apply again. An American Red Cross Case Manager will meet with you to discuss your unmet needs. To set an appointment with a Case Manger contact the American Red Cross at (805) 687-1331.

Local Assistance Center

The County of Santa Barbara has established a Local Assistance Center (LAC). The LAC is being established by the County and City of Santa Barbara to provide assistance and recovery services for residents who have lost homes or have been otherwise impacted by the Jesusita Fire.

The LAC will be open beginning Monday, May 18, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, until further notice.  The LAC is located at the County Administration Building Lobby, 105 E. Anapamu St., Santa Barbara, 93101. Click here for more information.

1. What is the Jesusita Long Term Recovery Fund (JFLTRF)?

JFLTRF is a collaborative community response to assist people who have been negatively impacted by the devastating Jesusita Fire.

Response Fund Partners will assist in fund raising efforts as well as making grants and providing benefits to the individuals and families affected. Additionally, JFLTRF works with most public and private agencies involved in providing direct services to fire victims.

2. Who is currently involved?

The Jesusita Fire Long Term Recovery Fund will again bring together the volunteer community partnership that is playing a pivotal role in raising and distributing over $430,000 for the survivors of the Tea Fire.

3. How much of my donation will be used to help fire survivors?

100% of your donation will be used to benefit survivors of the Jesusita Fire. All costs of the Fund will be paid from other sources.

4. What kind of donations will be accepted by JFLTRF?

Cash, check, debit card, and credit card. Until we are best able to determine the exact need of those affected, we will not be accepting material goods.

5. How will my donation be used?

Donations will be used for categories of assistance such as: school supplies, home business, transportation, furniture, clothing, medical needs, counseling, living expenses, and housing. People affected by the Jesusita Fire include students, renters, seniors, the uninsured and significantly under-insured, young children, families, and others.

7. Is there a screening process for determining eligibility?

Yes. A two-tiered, public-private partnership will provide screening at the social worker/case manager level and an oversight committee of local leaders will provide direction and assurance that all monies are used appropriately.

8. What is the difference between JFLTRF and Red Cross?

Every disaster and the people affected have short and long-term needs. The Red Cross is the first line of disaster response and relief. JFLTRF is concerned with the long-term community recovery and people rebuilding their lives. JFLTRF supports Red Cross efforts and Red Cross supports the longer term efforts of JFLTRF.

Dine, Dance, and Donate!

The Young Adults of Santa Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church will host a dinner and dance event, serving non-alcoholic beverages and Greek cuisine, to raise recovery money for survivors of the Jesusita fire. Join your community members in both American and Greek dancing to show those affected by the fire your faith that they will endure this obstacle. RSVP soon to reserve your spot for this fantastically fun and beneficial gathering!

A Buzzworthy Donation

On Friday, June 12, 2009, ten unique musicians collaborate for an Eclectic Buzz performance at the Key Club’s Plush Lounge in Los Angeles. Combining various genres of music, from jazz to hip hop, the group will be selling music CD samplers at the venue and donating all proceeds to United Way’s Jesusita Fire Fund.

These musicians came together for this benefit performance from a DIY Music Marketing class, and associated with United Way’s fire efforts through Audrey Harder. The concert is a great chance to witness Los Angeles’ compassion for the Jesusita Fire survivors, so head south for a night of culture and music! The show begins at 8 pm.

Samy’s, Silvergreens, Music, and a Movie

Join Samy’s Camera for an outdoor screening of “Behind the Lines: Fighting a Wildland Fire” to benefit those affected by the Jesusita Fire. The Tidepool Pictures documentary shows the effort of battling and recovering from a wildfire, filmed during the 2007-2008 California fire season.

The event kicks off at 7:30 pm with a musical performance by Dreamtime Continuum. You will have the opportunity to thank local firemen, and even get your picture taken on their fire truck!  Silvergreens is graciously donating food for this event.

There will be a suggested $5 donation at the door and a raffle to benefit United Way’s Jesusita Fire Long Term Recovery Fund. Copies of the film may be purchased to benefit the children of local firefighters with the Steven J. Masto memorial scholarship. Anderson Art Collective Chooses UW’s Jesusita Fire Long Term Recovery Fund

For their upcoming exhibition, Anderson Art Collective has chosen to donate to United Way’s efforts for the Jesusita Fire survivors. The Anderson Family, Ron, Benjamin, and Sean, established their Collective to “promote the Arts, to support the Environment and to recognize and support Human Rights.” Each show donates to a particular non-profit around the world through a silent auction, this one dedicated to Santa Barbara’s Unity Shoppe and United Way. Their Carpinteria gallery will host the auction and the inaugural show, “Collective,” opening on May 16th, 2009, from 5 pm to 9 pm, in the historical Henry Fish Seed Company building.

The public is encouraged to bring an object no bigger than their hand for an interactive portion of the opening event.
 

Points of Health Offers Wisdom and Treatment
