Launch
of 2-1-1 Service Brings Great Benefits
|
As of July 1, 2005, residents
throughout Santa Barbara County will be ushering in a new era of better access
to community, health, and disaster services.
The new dialing code 2-1-1 was launched throughout Southern California including
Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Riverside Counties.
2-1-1 is the free, 24-hour
phone number to find help in Santa Barbara County.
Like 9-1-1 for emergency calls, 2-1-1 will connect people to support services
for seniors and the disabled, childcare, employment assistance, emergency food
and shelter, child and adult protective services, legal assistance, and more.
By
substituting 2-1-1 for the myriad of toll-free and other numbers that exist today,
Santa Barbara County residents benefit by being able to quickly and easily get
access to the social and disaster services they need.
In addition, residents can go to www.211sbcounty.org
to have access to up to 1,500 social service programs and
agencies throughout the county.
For
more information about 2-1-1, please contact the United Way office at 805-965-8591.

The story of Marissa was presented
to those in attendance. Marissa is
a young lady who has attended Fun in the Sun for the past few years. Fun
in the Sun is United Way of Santa Barbara County's multi-agency summer enrichment
program for low-income and homeless children.
However, this year, she will be participating as a paid counselor.
Marissa is a true testament to the lessons in character development and skills
taught throughout the summer long program.

Several of the guests attending
the reception decided to help United Way
make more scholarships available
to children like Marissa by pledging $4,300 to Fun in the Sun.
These generous gifts will allow 4 more children to attend the summer enrichment
program.
For
more information on the results of Fun in the Sun and how your gifts help, please
contact Santa Barbara County's United Way at
805-965-8591. Thank you to those
who attended this event, we are excited about the possibilities for the future
of our community.

Santa
Barbara Bank & Trust Ready to Begin their Workplace Campaign
|
 |
|
Fred Clough and
Mary Jean Vignone leading the way
|
With the experience of Fred Clough
and Mary Jean Vignone, Santa Barbara Bank & Trust
plans to exceed 2004's totals that resulted in the second highest employee gift
donations in the county. This year’s
theme of “United in the Way We Care” has created great enthusiasm
as well as plans to continue every banker’s favorite excuse not to wear
a suit with Jeans Day, as well as the second version of their cookbook.
All their hard work and planning to be a
Pacesetter has them starting the campaign in June in order to set the bar very
high for all other campaigns to follow.
This has resulted in a flurry of activity in Susan Cavalli and Dave
Hall’s teams but enthusiasm is at an all time high.
Stay tuned for future updates!

Looking
to Lead Another Year
|
 |
|
Ed Moses at the
Day of Caring
|
As the reigning leader in total
employee contributions, the County of Santa Barbara has no plans
to rest on its laurels. Ed Moses
has created a very capable team with a blend of experience and new ideas to again
lead the County in workplace giving.
Plans are already underway to successfully coordinate all the various departments
in the County for the fall campaign.
Most importantly, the organization has started another Fun Day event that
looks to grow on last year’s excitement.
Be warned, with the Sheriff on its committee, he promises to make sure everyone
is under control. More information
to follow!

Chuck Bischof
& Kathy Odell
|
As
a local entrepreneur, Chuck Bischof launches high tech startups, watches
them grow, and moves on to new adventures. Through all of these changes, he has
continually stuck by Santa Barbara County's United Way. Chuck is now one
of the newest directors on the Board for United Way.
A Santa Barbara local himself, Chuck hits the waves
whenever there is a spare moment. His wife, Kathy Odell, is equally
busy in watching her ideas grow into great successes. Kathy, CEO of local
company Inogen, has seen the business explode since its 2001 founding.
Their primary product of an oxygen concentrator has been labeled a “technological
breakthrough.” While Kathy
is helping to provide ease to those in need of oxygen therapy, she also has continued
to participate with Santa Barbara County's United Way ,
and has involved Inogen in the community with great success as well.
Thank you to Chuck and Kathy for their support of Santa Barbara County's United
Way and their community!
