February 2009
United Way, First 5 Santa Barbara County
Launch My Healthy Child
to Connect Families with Vital Health,
Education & Special Needs Resources
BACKGROUND:
Parents view their child’s doctor as their most trusted source of
information for their child’s development, medical and
non-medical information. With this in mind, First 5 Santa Barbara
County, United Way of Santa Barbara County and local pediatricians have
teamed up to launch My Healthy Child, a new initiative designed
to give Santa Barbara County parents vital information about their
child’s development and to connect them with resources for health,
education and special needs for their youngest children, ages birth
through 5.
THE CAMPAIGN:
My Healthy Child materials will be available
in English and Spanish through doctors at Santa Barbara Neighborhood
Clinics, Sansum Medical Clinic, Franklin Clinic and the Children’s
Medical Clinic. It is estimated that the
participating clinics and doctors provide nearly 1,300 well child
check-ups per month and that they will see as many as 3,800 children
during the first 3 months of the campaign.
