Blue-and-white banners lining State Street depict a graphic
of a man, woman and child.
They represent the local families supported and "uplifted" by
United Way of Santa Barbara County, the sponsor of the flags.
And they also promote the nonprofit's vision that "in our
community, everyone has a hopeful future," according to the
organization.
The local United Way dates back to 1923 and partners with
area nonprofit groups and public sector agencies to connect
those in need with resources.
Its community-wide "Power of Partnership" initiative outlines
goals for the next 5 and 10 years to meet
health and human
service needs of children, families and seniors.
The United Way also sponsors volunteer development, funding
efforts and other multi-agency initiatives.
For more information about United Way, call
965-8591 or go to

The State Street Flag Program, coordinated by the
Santa Barbara
Downtown Organization, promotes downtown events and
celebrations. The banners change throughout the year, depending
on the event being highlighted.
