Thomas Elected Chairman of the Board At United Way of Santa Barbara County

 

William S. “Tom” Thomas, Jr. has been elected chairman of the board of directors at United Way of Santa Barbara County.


Thomas is the Community Relations Executive for Pacific Capital Bancorp, a $7.5 billion financial services company, the 49 branch community bank holding company headquartered in Santa Barbara. The company serves Central Coast customers under the community bank brands of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, First National Bank of Central California, South Valley National Bank, and San Benito Bank.

 

A 1965 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with an MBA from the University of Southern California, Thomas started his career with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City.  He held senior management positions with Security Pacific National Bank for 16 years and then with Bank of America following the merger of those two banks. He joined Santa Barbara Bank & Trust in 1994, was named President & Chief Operating Officer two years later, and served as President & Chief Executive Officer of the bank and the holding company from 2000 to 2007.
 

A Montecito resident, Thomas is also a trustee of the UCSB Foundation and the Courthouse Legacy Foundation and serves a director on the boards of Family Service Agency and Partners In Education. "The goal during my chairmanship is to assist the staff and volunteers at United Way to move forward robustly with the Power of Partnership  Initiative,” stated Thomas.
