of Santa Barbara County are proud to offer FREE volunteer
tax assistance (VITA) and preparation.
The VITA Program trains and utilizes IRS certified student volunteers to help low-income
families file their taxes and collect benefits where possible. FREE tax preparation is
available for those with low-to-moderate incomes – individuals or families who
earned under $48,000 in 2009.
Our Volunteer Tax Assistants assist families and
individuals in claiming tax credits that they may not be aware of. Families may
be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child/Dependent Tax
Credit for which they and can receive a refund of up to $5,000!
Last year over 530 tax returns were completed, representing approximately
$1,000,000.00 returned to the community.
Free tax preparation will be offered January 21-April 14,
2010, every Thursday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on a first come, first served basis.
