United Way
of Santa Barbara County's 12th Annual Red Feather Ball topped our list as one of
our most profitable events ever! Thank you for all your support! The Red Feather
Ball was held on Saturday, October 11th, at Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort,
honoring Paul & Natalie Orfalea, The Orfalea Fund and Orfalea Family
Foundation with the Abercrombie Community
Excellence Award. The extraordinary contributions
of this couple and their family foundations, led by President Lois Mitchell for
infants, children, youth and their education are unparalleled in the Tri-County
area.
This spectacular event benefited our
Fun in the Sun
program and
was chaired by Val & Bob Montgomery. Each summer for the last twelve
years United Way of Santa Barbara County has provided a safe, nurturing and
academically enriched summer program for homeless and low-income children. This
program has grown from one site at Ortega Park in 1997 to four sites from Goleta
to Carpinteria serving over 350 children. This now nationally recognized program
is increasing reading levels and improving behaviors and attitudes in these
challenged children. The Red Feather Ball is our one annual fundraising event to
underwrite scholarships for these deserving children. This year the DoubleTree
ballrooms were transformed to take attendees into an Asian themed evening;
beautiful wedding kimonos and orchids graced the foyer, a 15 foot garden arch
greeted guests in the cocktail/silent auction room and every detail was in place
to transport guests to Asia in the dining room.

Debby
Davison was the evening's emcee, Musical Mischief started the
evening with their production of "That's Philanthropic!", and The Lion Dance Team
from Cal Poly brought smiles to every face and an energy to the room in time for
the scholarship auction. Thank you to all the donors, bidders, guests and
contributors. We greatly appreciate your support! For additional information and
