BASIC
ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANT AGENCIES
An agency applying for
funding from United Way of Santa Barbara County must meet
the following basic requirements:
1. Be incorporated.
2. Have adopted by-laws.
3. Be established as a
non-profit, tax exempt corporation according to IRS Code
501(C)(3) and be certified by the State of California
as non-profit and tax exempt.
4. Operate in the health,
human services and education field.
5. The agency's services
must improve the well-being of people in the Santa
Barbara County (special
emphasis from Santa Ynez Valley to Carpinteria) community by contributing to the solution of
recognized
social problems as identified by United Way of Santa Barbara County.
6. Prior to the beginning of
receiving a grant, the agency in most instances must have
operated for at
least two years. Exceptions may be granted in unusual circumstances.
7. The agency must have
demonstrated broad community support through:
-Reasonably broad
voluntary financial contributions
-A sizable and active volunteer board and membership
8. We are especially
interested in innovative partnerships or collaborations.
