This June, United Way of Santa Barbara
County held its Annual Alexis de
Tocqueville and Leadership Circle Thank You Reception at La Cumbre
Country Club under palm trees and sunny skies.
Jim Wolfe, Chair of the Leadership Circle Committee, and his wife
Marcia
graciously welcomed the guests to celebrate the fundraising
accomplishments of the 2004 - 2005 Community Campaign. Members of the
Alexis de Tocqueville Society and Leadership Circle contributed over
$1,250,000 of the $3,001,076 raised!
Fun in the Sun, United Way's summer enrichment program, was highlighted
by United Way President and CEO Paul Didier. The impact of this program
is visible in the accomplishments of the many children who have
participated since its inception in 1997. Marissa is one of those
children and this year she will be participating as a paid counselor.
She is a true testament to the lessons in character development and
skills taught throughout the summer long program.
Several of the guests attending the reception decided to help United Way
make more scholarships available by pledging $4,300 to Fun in the Sun.
These generous gifts will allow 4 more children to attend the entire
program at one of the three sites. This is wonderful news as all guests
in attendance already support United Way with gifts of at least $1,000.

United Way continues to be supported by very special people in our
community. Through the Power of Partnership™
, children and their families
are receiving services that are assisting them in their lives. Without
our community partnerships, our generous donors and committed
volunteers, programs like Fun in the Sun would not exist.
