University of California Santa Barbara’s Student United Way Club was established in 2014 by Kate Wokowsky, Lauren Dumapias, and Daniela Gonzalez. We are dedicated students who seek to unite the Santa Barbara County community. We believe we can improve the areas of Health, Financial Empowerment, and Education throughout the community.
UCSB students are often isolated from the struggles that exist off campus. Thus, we are striving to create a strong foundation and pave the way for opportunity and success for ourselves and the families, children, and elderly around us.
We are committed to people helping people every day…one generation voluntarily and compassionately paving the way for future generations.
Meet our 2014-2015 Officers:
My name is Kate Wokowsky and I am a third year at UCSB. I have been involved with United Way of Santa Barbara County since June 2013. My first project was helping plan the Annual Day of Caring. It was heartwarming to see over 1,400 volunteers come out to support their community. Since then, I have been a part of the UCSB campaign as the student ambassador and am working to start a successful United Way Club at UCSB. My hope is that students will have the opportunity to be involved in helping the community they call home. Living near campus isolated me from the struggles that local residents all over the county have to cope with. I feel UWSBC captures the most important aspects of what needs improvement in our Santa Barbara community, and develops programs that truly help. Join me in giving back to Santa Barbara County! My name is Lauren Dumapias and I am so excited to serve you and the community as Vice President of the UCSB's United Way Student Club. This non-profit organization has already shown their selfless, caring hearts through by sharing their love for the community. We hope that everyone will take this chance to offer their helping hands to those in need. I know from personal experiences volunteering in Mississippi, hanging out with wonderful special needs kids, and serving the school community that lending a hand to those in need is the best feeling in the world. United Way is a great gateway to that wonderful feeling, so please join us and give back to the community that provides such a beautiful home to all of us.
Hello my name is Daniela Gonzalez I am a third year History major and Education minor. I am the secretary of the UCSB United Way Club. I am so excited to be a part of such a great organization that focuses on a range of issues in our immediate community. I started volunteering in Middle School and never stopped; I believe that one small act of kindness really impacts the community as a whole and that together we can help people from all walks of life. United Way offers our community help and guidance with some issues that most affect them and I really look forward to helping our community grow with the help of my fellow Gauchos.
Hi all! My name is Jonathan Montenegro. I am a third year at UCSB and am pleased to be serving as this year's United Way Club Treasurer. I am excited to work with such great officers in an amazing club to help improve our community, which we've all come to love and cherish. I have always strongly believed in the positive impact acts of kindness can have on a community and it is this belief that led me to complete so many volunteer hours since elementary school. I saw the United Way Club as a great way to stay involved and I hope you join us to see for yourself that by working together we can make this year the best, most charitable one possible!
We look forward to hearing from you! Please check out our Facebook page and contact Club President, Kate Wokowsky for more information.
