Berkshire Hathaway Awards Grant To UWSBC

The Charitable Foundation, a unique arm of Berkshire Hathaway, recently donated $2,000 to United Way of Santa Barbara County to help support the Goleta Literacy Partnership, which provides literacy tools and techniques to students in every school in Goleta Union School District.

In partnership with the District, UWSBC is providing students with an individualized, internet-based, adaptive program that moves students forward at their own pace. Also provided: specialized training for teachers, who can give each student individual attention as needed.

Foundation donors are dedicated agents and employees of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services California Properties who donate a portion of their commissions and/or salaries to The Charitable Foundation. A committee of donors reviews proposals received from nonprofit organizations and recommends grant awards. The Charitable Foundation has exceeded 5 million dollars in grants since its inception, according to a long-time donor and volunteer.
