UNITED WE READ

Every year United Way's Young Leaders Society (YLS) hosts the "United We Read" local volunteer opportunity.

This event allows volunteers to inspire children to read by visiting a local school and reading your favorite childhood book to a classroom. All volunteers are encouraged to purchase an age-appropriate book to read and donate to the school they visit, or they can grab a book from the school library to read to the students. Typically, volunteers read to Kindergarten through 6th grade classrooms of 20-25 students. In addition to allowing volunteers to read to a classroom, "United We Read" also gives YLS the opportunity to donate money to these schools to purchase books for their school library. The money donated comes from the proceeds of YLS's Fall event "United We Bowl."
